Jean E. Courtney
Jean Courtney, CPA, MBA, currently serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for The Joint Commission and Joint Commission Resources. In this role, she is responsible for coordinating all strategic initiatives and operating activities across the Enterprise, overseeing Joint Commission Resources (JCR) and Joint Commission International (JCI) product and service delivery, and directing business development and marketing for The Joint Commission and JCR.
Previously, Ms. Courtney served as the Interim President and Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer for Joint Commission Resources and Joint Commission International. JCR and JCI are not-for-profit organizations working to improve health care quality and patient safety in nearly 90 countries around the world. JCI is leading health care improvement worldwide through its work with The Joint Commission as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Patient Safety Solutions, through development of international standards for quality and safety and international patient safety goals, and by offering domestic and international consulting, international accreditation, education, publications,Continuous Service Readiness® and e-Learning.
Ms. Courtney has more than 30 years of health care financial, strategic, and operational management experience. Earlier, Ms. Courtney served as Chief of Staff and Chief Financial Officer for Joint Commission Resources and Joint Commission International. In addition, she has worked as a Senior Manager in health care consulting for Ernst & Young in Chicago, Illinois, as a Finance Projects Manager and Senior Internal Auditor for Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan, and as a Staff Accountant for Pannell Kerr Foster, Certified Public Accountants in Detroit, Michigan.
Ms. Courtney received her Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin and her Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. Ms. Courtney is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
