Implement Standards to Improve Care
The Joint Commission has helped laboratory organizations across the U.S. elevate their performance through a key element of accreditation — the standards.
Get the Standards
Joint Commission standards help you develop strategies to address the most complex issues and identified key vulnerabilities in the patient care experience. Developed with input from health care professionals, providers, consumers, and other experts, the standards ensure a comprehensive review of your patient care process.
We offer both print and electronic versions of our laboratory accreditation standards manual. Organizations can request free 90-day access to our online standards manual (E-dition®).
Is your organization ready to implement the standards? You can assess your readiness in a variety of ways, including:
Conduct mock surveys. Walk through your facility and see how well you meet the requirements.
Identify gaps in compliance. Document areas where improvement is needed. This will help target your efforts and prioritize where resources need to be allocated.
Develop timetable for compliance. Once you've identified areas for improvement, assign completion dates for each gap identified. This will help you formulate a readiness date for your on-site survey.
