New and Revised Requirements for "Disease-Specific Care" (DSC) Certification Programs

Effective January 1, 2025, the Joint Commission has approved new and revised standards and elements of performance (EPs) for most Disease-Specific Care (DSC) certification programs.

The Disease-Specific Care (DSC) certification’s standards and EPs have undergone significant revisions by eliminating or revising requirements that do not add value to the certification and review process. The addendums specific to the advanced DSC certification programs will be moved under new EPs, but the content of the addendums will not change. In the future, these addendums will be revised to cohesively align with the new and revised EPs.

These revised requirements will not affect the intent of the advanced DSC certification programs and their program-specific requirements. The Advanced Certifications for Lung Volume Reduction Surgery and Ventricular Assist Device will not be part of these revisions, and the standards and EPs for these programs will remain unchanged.

To obtain a complete copy of the new and revised standards and EPs, current customers can access basic and/or advanced DSC programs via the Joint Commission Connect® site under “Important Updates.”
