Total Hip and Knee Replacement

The Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement measures focuses on transitions of care from the pre-surgical orthopedic consultation to the intraoperative, hospitalization or ambulatory surgical centers admission, rehabilitation activities and follow up visit with the orthopedic surgeon.

There are no Total Hip and Knee Replacement eCQMs applicable or available for Accreditation purposes.

There are no Total Hip and Knee Replacement chart abstracted measures applicable or available for Accreditation purposes.

The Total Hip and Knee Replacement eCQMs for Certification purposes are currently under development.

The Joint Commission worked with a Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) that included experts in orthopedic surgery, anesthesia, rehabilitative medicine, internal medicine, physical therapy, perioperative nursing, social work, and joint program administration.

The Joint Commission in collaboration with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) will be offering a combined Advanced Total Hip and Knee Replacement certification. This certification requires the use of the following standardized performance measures in order to meet the performance measurement requirements for certification.

  • THKR-IP-1 Regional Anesthesia
  • THKR-IP-2 Postoperative Ambulation on Day of Surgery
  • THKR-IP-3 Discharged to Home
  • THKR-IP-4 Preoperative Functional/Health Status Assessment
