  • CMS regulations allow for flexibility and do not require organizations to adhere to a specific set of guidelines or best practices. Other federal, state and local regulations, however, may define specific requirements or require organizations to follow a specific guideline or national standard. 
  • Organizations must evaluate regulation and current evidence-based guidelines and national standards to design organizational policies and procedures to promote staff and patient safety.
