The Joint Commission and the National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems (NAPHS), the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD) and the NASMHPD Research Institute, Inc. (NRI) collaborated on the development of a set of core performance measures for Hospital-Based Inpatient Psychiatric Services (HBIPS). Measures in the HBIPS set were re-endorsed by the National Quality Forum (NQF) on February 18, 2014.
The following are Hospital-Based Inpatient Psychiatric Services chart abstracted measures used by The Joint Commission.
- HBIPS-1 Admission screening for violence risk, substance use, psychological trauma history and patient strengths completed
- HBIPS-2 Hours of physical restraint use
- HBIPS-3 Hours of seclusion use
- HBIPS-5 Patients discharged on multiple antipsychotic medications with appropriate justification
